Curriculum
Research activity:Michele Virgilio is a theoretician in condensed matter physics. He develops numerical models for the evaluation of the electronic structure and optical properties of semiconductor nanostructures based on group IV materials. The objective of his current research activity is the optimization of strained SiGe nanostructures for photonics applications both in the therahertz (intersubband transitions) and in the near infrared range (interband transitions). His theoretical activity focuses mainly on multilayer systems and it is carried out in close collaboration with different experimental groups in Italy and abroad. It has lead to important contributes toward the development of electrically pumped Silicon compatible optical amplifiers based on indirect gap materials. He his co-author of twenty-four scientific publications, one book chapter and nine referred conference proceedings. Michele Virgilio has an h-index of seven and his scientific papers has been cited more that 190 times.
Present position:
Since January 2012 permanent researcher at the Physics Department Enrico Fermi of Pisa University.

Since November 2010 to December 2011 research fellow at the CNR-NANO Istitute of Pisa, under the scientific supervision of Dr. Alessandro Tredicucci;
